A workshop on the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Juvenile Justice Act was held on 18th October 2024 at SDSV, Roorkee. The event was facilitated by Ms. Nivedita Singh, a subject matter expert and practitioner with over 13 years of experience working in humanitarian and development sectors, focusing on child protection in diverse and challenging contexts.

The program commenced with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, performed by the school’s principal, Mr. G. C. Uniyal, along with Admin Head Mr. Rohit Bijalwan, Maintenance Head Mr. Pradeep Dabral, and Ms. Nivedita Singh. This was followed by a formal felicitation of Ms. Nivedita Singh by the principal.
The workshop was attended by teachers and administrative staff, who engaged in various sessions conducted by Ms. Nivedita. She began by providing a comprehensive overview of the POCSO Act, detailing the roles and responsibilities expected from educators and staff. She also highlighted the punishments outlined in the Act for those found guilty of offences or for individuals who conceal information related to abuse.
Ms. Nivedita further explained the behavioral changes that children often exhibit after experiencing abuse, supplementing her explanations with facts and case studies to help participants understand the laws better. Interactive activities were incorporated throughout the workshop, in which participants actively took part, demonstrating great interest.
In the concluding part of the session, she emphasized the critical role that schools, teachers, and support staff play in creating a safe and supportive environment for children.
Overall, the workshop was an enriching experience and proved highly beneficial for all attendees.
